Balaton Sound & Volt Festival Now Officially Cancelled, What About Sziget Fest 2021?
Organisers have cancelled this summer’s VOLT and Balaton Sound festivals due to uncertainties regarding the pandemic.

“We do not see that international tourism will resume in Europe by mid-summer, and the safety and health of our audience is paramount”, festival director Zoltán Fülöp said in a Thursday statement.

According to the statement, Balaton Sound, held in Zamárdi, has become one of the most important music festivals in Europe, attracting tens of thousands of domestic and foreign guests every year.

VOLT founder Norbert Lobenwein highlighted that the Sopron event, held in June, is one of the earliest summer festivals.

The announcement recalls that major concerts and festivals across Europe are being cancelled one after another, and that international tours are uncertain.

Organisers said they considered alternative dates for the Balaton Sound and VOLT festivals at the end of the summer but, due to the size and international scale of the festivals, no solution was found that was compatible with the performers.

Ed: This year Hungary’s biggest and brightest festival Sziget is shrouded in mystery.

Ticket holders from last year's cancelled event have been offered guaranteed entry this year, but there is little information on who will be playing on any of the stages.

Their website maintains that there will be a Sziget Festival in 2021, and we so want to believe them, but it's increasingly unlikely given the two related festivals above are now officially cancelled.
