Competition Authority GVH Looking at 22 Suspected Cartels in Hungary

Competition watchdog GVH is currently investigating 22 suspected cartel cases involving more than 250 companies and over 1,800 tenders, according to its statement.

More than 1,000 of the tenders under review were financed with public funds.

The GVH says cartel agreements, such as competitors co-ordinating prices or dividing markets, can distort competition and push up costs in public procurement.

The GVH closed three major cases last year and imposed a combined Ft 2.2 billion in fines, and opened five new probes.

So far in 2026, the GVH has launched six new cartel proceedings, bringing the ongoing total to 22 cases, which is three times the average number handled by EU national competition authorities at the end of 2025.

The GVH is not disclosing details of individual cases.
