This visit marked a special reunion as Murray and Stenger share a friendship that spans over three decades.
On Monday, the duo, along with Éva, explored the Kaáli Auto and Motorcycle Museum in Dörgicse. It was there that Blikk’s reporters caught up with Murray.
The actor shared that he has known Michael for 35 years, starting when Stenger worked as his chauffeur in New York. Michael, who emigrated from Hungary in 1956, initially formed a professional relationship with Murray, which eventually blossomed into a deep friendship.
Although Michael had invited Murray to Hungary several times, the actor’s busy schedule always posed a challenge. Currently filming in Germany, Murray decided to seize the opportunity for a brief visit. This trip marked his first time in Hungary, and he planned to continue his travels to Greece on Tuesday.
Murray shared with Blikk that he has a unique morning routine: waking up early and having dessert for breakfast.
“I feel great here; this is a beautiful country,” he remarked. He described their journey across the Hungarian countryside, noting the endless driving and the beauty they encountered.
Their exploration also took them through Budapest, where they experienced the city’s charm.
One highlight of the trip was attending a wine festival, where Murray was particularly impressed by the traditional Hungarian liqueur, Unicum. He found it so soothing that it almost completely relaxed him, he is reported to have said.
However, the search for live gypsy music proved challenging, and despite their efforts, they couldn’t find any. Undeterred, Murray mentioned they might consider inviting musicians to their place if the search remained fruitless by Monday.
Michael Stenger also shared his perspective with Blikk, reminiscing about the first time he chauffeured Murray 35 years ago during the actor’s stint on “Saturday Night Live” in New York.
Over time, Stenger became Murray‘s regular driver, and their relationship evolved from professional to personal. Stenger‘s family was genuinely surprised when Murray sent a message from the plane, saying, “I’m on my way to you.”
