The acclaimed American singer, songwriter, producer and actress will perform at Akvárium Klub’s NagyHall, with the concert scheduled to begin at 8pm and doors opening at 7pm.

Known around the world for her distinctive raspy voice, soulful delivery and unmistakable stage presence, Gray has built a career spanning more than two decades. Her Budapest appearance promises a mixture of classic favourites and newer material, giving audiences a chance to hear both the songs that established her international reputation and music from the latest chapter of her career.

From ‘I Try’ to an enduring career

Macy Gray broke onto the international music scene in 1999 with her debut album On How Life Is. The album became a major commercial success and introduced audiences around the world to her unique vocal style.

Its standout single, “I Try,” became Gray's signature song and earned her a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance in 2000. According to Eventim, Gray has gone on to sell more than 25 million albums worldwide, while also receiving multiple Grammy and BRIT Award nominations and wins.

Her career has extended well beyond recording studios and concert stages. Gray has collaborated with artists including Bobby Brown, Ariana Grande and Galactic, while her acting credits include appearances in films such as Training Day and For Colored Girls, as well as the Netflix series Fuller House.

In 2014, she was also inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in her hometown of Canton, Ohio.

A new chapter

While Gray's classic material remains an important part of her live appeal, she has continued to release new music and explore contemporary themes.

In 2023, she released The Reset, recorded with her band The California Jet Club. The album explores issues including society, relationships and human connection.

She followed that with “I AM” in 2024, a collaboration with BIG FREEDIA built around themes of self-acceptance and individuality. Both releases demonstrate that Gray is still very much an active and evolving artist rather than simply revisiting the successes of her past.

That combination of nostalgia and new material should make the Budapest show particularly appealing to longtime fans as well as listeners discovering Gray's music for the first time.
