South Korea’s Samsung SDI will invest 100 billion forints (EUR 322m) in a plant in Göd, north of Budapest, to produce batteries for electric vehicles for European markets, Hungary’s minister for foreign affairs and trade announced. After serious competition from other countries in the region, the investment in Hungary will create 600 jobs, Péter Szijjártó said in Budapest.

Research institute Kopint-Tárki on Tuesday said it lowered its GDP growth projections for Hungary for this year and next to 2.2 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, because of the slower-than-expected recovery and downside risk posed by the UK’s decision to leave the EU. Earlier, Kopint-Tárki had projected GDP growth of 2.4 percent for 2016 and 2.9 percent for 2017.

Ratings agency Moody’s Investors Service upgraded the outlook of Hungary’s banking system to positive, the rating agency said today in a report entitled “Banking System Outlook - Hungary”.
