Budapest Police Release Details Of Sunday Stabbing
"Police have arrested a 33-year-old Budapest man suspected of murdering a triathlon competitor from New Zealand on Nagymező utca in the Sixth District early Sunday, it was announced yesterday.

The man, who has a criminal record, was arrested Monday evening. He reportedly attacked 48-year-old Warwick John White, a dual citizen of New Zealand and Ecuador, who had been arguing with a prostitute. White died of a stab wound to the heart.

White got into trouble when a dispute developed as he began bargaining over the price of the woman's sexual services. The woman's pimp began to scuffle with White, then repeatedly stabbed him. Proceedings have been launched against the attacker for grievous physical assault and use of force against officials.

According to reports White was at the Alterego nightclub on nearby Dessewffy utca before the incident.

His elder sister will fly to Budapest to have his remains returned home following his official extradition. The New Zealand Herald reported that White has two children and a grandchild in Wellington and Christchurch.

The victim had participated in the world triathlon championship race in Budapest earlier Saturday. A native of New Zealand, he had been living in Ecuador for the past eight years."
