Former MNB Governor Bod Sees Matolcsy Losing Self-Control
“It would be hard to dispute that MNB governor György Matolcsy has lost his self-control,” former MNB governor Péter Ákos Bod said with regard to the bill on shielding the finances of the MNB’s foundations from public view.

Bod, now a professor at Corvinus University, told Népszabadság in an interview that the MNB is part of the EU banking structure, therefore the opinion of the European Central Bank should have been obtained, allowing it 60-90 days to comment, before modifying the central bank law.

The MNB is not an investment bank but a monetary authority and has no licence to buy expensive property beyond its own use, Bod argued.
