Watch: Greenpeace - Fracking Should be Banned in Hungary
- 16 Dec 2024 9:10 AM
On 1 December, activists from Greenpeace Hungary placed a 23-metre-long "Stop fracking" sign on a drilling rig in the Nyékpuszta gas field. They also warned that climate change means that natural gas production and use must be stopped as soon as possible, and named the road to the rig "the climate crisis road".
Fracking is the injection of a fluid at high pressure into an underground rock formation to open fissures and allow trapped gas or crude oil to flow through a pipe to a wellhead at the surface. This technique is used in natural gas and petroleum production.
