Simultaneously, independently of the European Festival Awards, Sziget's sustainability initiatives received commendation with the A Greener Future certification.
The 'Take a Stand' award is presented annually to the festival whose activities notably contribute to achieving these goals. The jury, in evaluating Sziget Festival, recognizes Sziget's commitment to addressing issues such as climate change, migration, mental health, innovation, and inclusion throughout various aspects of its event.
The jury acknowledges the festival's profound dedication to fostering tolerance, acceptance, and inclusion, celebrating the beauty of diversity, particularly in a region of Europe where such commitment holds heightened significance.
Tamás Kádár, CEO of Sziget Festival, states: "Since its inception, Sziget has been representing these values: standing for acceptance, tolerance, and individual freedom. For over a decade, we have encapsulated these principles, the values that make up the 'DNA of Sziget', under the umbrella of Island of Freedom, Love Revolution, and the recently launched Free to Be. However, these have been important foundational principles of our program planning and communication for 30 years."
Meanwhile, independently of the European Festival Awards, Sziget also received another international honor, acknowledging its sustainability efforts through the A Greener Future (AGF) certification.
"The AGF certification is always highly valuable for us, as it allows us to review and evaluate our efforts," emphasized Ákos Dominus, Sziget's sustainability manager. "By participating in the Award, we not only gain further knowledge of the subject but also build strong connections with like-minded people from our industry. This will not only make us more sustainable but also enhance partnerships and competitiveness in the future."
Sziget continues to Take a Stand and returns on the 7-12 of August 2024, in Budapest, Hungary. The festival announced its first names, including Fred Again, Martin Garrix, Sam Smith, and Stormzy.
