The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers increased 1.5pc to 1,771,000, while guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose 2.3pc to 2,086,000.

Revenue of commercial accommodations, which include hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, camp sites, resorts and hostels, climbed 15pc to HUF 104.4bn.

A total of 28,636 tourism accommodations hosted guests in May, including 25,902 private and other accommodations.

For the period January-May, the number of guest nights increased 4.4pc to 14,517,000 from the same period a year earlier. The number spent by domestic travellers edged up 0.4pc 6,465,000 and the guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose 7.8pc to 8,051,000.
