Hazardous Chemical Found Next to Budapest Ice Rink
The government office of Budapest has ordered "immediate measures" after the Budapest Sports Services Centre, a non-profit company owned by the municipality of Budapest, was found to have stored ammonia haphazardly next to the City Park's ice skating rink.

The authority launched its procedure on the ground that the illegal storage "could endanger human life and the safety of the environment".

According to information from the government office, the municipal company stored 2.4 cubic metres of ammonia, used as a cooling agent, in temporary containers and without leak detectors, contravening local and international regulations.

Such a large amount of the chemical could endanger the health of masses of people as well as harming the environment, they added.

The government office has ordered the company to take necessary and immediate steps to remedy the situation, and it also levied a disaster management penalty of 3 million forints (EUR 7,721).
