Important Information for UK Nationals in Hungary on EU’s New Entry/Exit System
From 12 October 2025, the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) will begin to roll out. This means that when you travel into the Schengen area for short stays, you may need to register your biometric details, such as fingerprints and a photo. You do not need to take any action before you arrive at the border, and there is no cost for EES registration.

In Hungary, EES officially launches at land border crossings first, starting with Beregsurány (Ukrainian border). Serbia will follow shortly after. The EES rollout will only start at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport from 18 November.

If you are resident or have a long-stay visa to live in Hungary, and you have the correct documentation, you will be exempt from EES. Make sure your residence document is valid before travel and always travel with it.
