On 6 December, the Family Day celebrating St. Nicholas will include a concert by the Kolompos band and a performance of the puppet musical Kippkopp in the Snow.
On every Advent Sunday, visitors can take part in free craft workshops in the Event Hall foyer, where they can make their own Advent wreaths.
Meanwhile, Hungarian applied artists will offer their creations at the Advent Fair in the De la Motte–Beer Palace, held on 12–14 December and 19–21 December, according to Krisztina Sikota, Deputy CEO of the Várkapitányság, who presented the series at a press conference held at Várkert Bazár on Tuesday.
She also highlighted the “Sisi’s Christmas” Advent walks and the “Let There Be Peace on Earth! – The World of Our Retro Winters” outdoor exhibition. The latter showcases winter and holiday-related objects from the second half of the 20th century, drawn from the collection of the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism.
The display combines cultural artefacts and informative texts to evoke the nostalgia and everyday traditions of Hungarian winters past.
The concert line-up begins on 29 November with Dániel Szebényi’s album launch for Újratervezés (Redesign), followed by a performance on 30 November by the Sárik Péter Trio with Krisztina Koszorus.
On 7 December, Budapest Bár will give a double concert, while Honeybeast takes the stage on 13 December with their show Harmony – The Overture.
On 17 December, singer Rezső Soltész and his band will perform songs from his latest double album in symphonic arrangements, alongside beloved Christmas classics such as Silent Night and ABBA’s Happy New Year. He will be accompanied by the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra, pianist Róbert Rátonyi Jr., and a traditional beat ensemble. The concert’s guest performer will be actor Sándor Lukács.
Zóra Urbányi, the Hungarian-American singer-songwriter, returns to the Várkert Bazár stage on 20 December with her double concert One Evening, One Feeling, One Voice. The following evening, the St. Ephrem Men’s Choir will perform an Advent and Christmas concert featuring guest artist Edina “Mókus” Szirtes.
On 27 December, Ivan & The Parazol will play live, followed the next day by the Modern Art Orchestra’s 20th Anniversary Gala Concert, with special guests Veronika Harcsa and Franciska Törőcsik, among others.
The pre-New Year’s Eve performance on 30 December will once again feature Random Trip, while revellers can welcome the New Year at the Be Massive electronic party on New Year’s Eve, celebrating in style at the Várkert Bazár.
Throughout the Advent season, visitors strolling along the Halászó Gyerekek Terrace can enjoy festive decorations, charcoal-grilled Christmas delicacies, and hot seasonal drinks.
The Advent Fair in the De la Motte–Beer Palace on Dísz Square will also host contemporary applied artists offering not only their handcrafted works but also special workshops, in collaboration with the Rearticon Applied Arts Association. Meanwhile, the free Sunday craft sessions in the Event Hall foyer will invite participants to make Advent wreaths, small gifts, and decorations.
On 14 December, the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble will perform Winter Dance, a production that brings to life forgotten Hungarian folk traditions and festive customs from past generations. Then, on 18 December, the Aposztróf Literary Evening titled Above Them, Dream Songs Are Hummed will take place, featuring actress-singer Petra Gubik, singer Misi Mező, and musician-writer László Kollár-Klemencz.
