Autumn Cultural Festival in Szeged -100's of Free Programs Ahead
- 20 Oct 2025 7:23 AM
The aim of the event series is to present renowned performing and creative artists to the university and Szeged audience, in addition to art groups operating at the university and students with artistic ambitions.
The series of events is put together each year in a way that draws from as wide a range of cultures as possible and, if possible, offers a program suitable for all ages and interests.
The usual diversity of genres is not lacking this year either: the programs of the all-arts festival include light and classical music concerts, educational presentations, theater performances, concerts, film and book screenings, exhibitions, and literary and public discussions.
As the opening of the festival, an exhibition of nature photographs by János Török will be held in the university's central building. The photojournalist and photo artist work of the former and current student of the university has been awarded dozens of domestic and international awards.
A folk dance performance and dance house will be held on Dugonics Square, and the opening of the diverse festival will traditionally be made special by a light painting, during which the artists of the Szeged National Theatre will perform a selection of songs from the musical The Jungle Book.
On October 7, the Szeged University Theatre will present the play A citrátkör in honour of Kuno Klebelsberg and Albert Szent-Györgyi at a reading theatre evening. The audience can also see Csaba Csíkos' play Dreaming in Hungarian at the Reök Palace.
From October 14, the Klebelsberg Library of the Szeged University will pay tribute to the work of Ferenc Kállai, the National Actor, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth with an extremely rich and representative exhibition.
The highly successful Poems at Noon program series continues, in which every weekday after the noon bell, university students and citizens of Szeged recite their favorite poems in front of the Rector's Building.
On the opening day of the festival, the audience can hear Judit Fendler, the Chancellor of SZTE.
Visitors can learn about the book Gryllusok, which tells the stories of the artist family, at a musical book launch. On November 5, at the Grand Café, those interested can read László Szilasi's book of mourning [18.48: telephone], which he began writing after his mother's death.
Several exhibitions recall the figure of Kuno Klebelsberg, who played a decisive role in the development of Szeged. An exhibition about the former Minister of Culture will open in the university's central building on November 7th, titled Klebelsberg's Legacy - A Life in the Service of Hungarian Science and Culture, while artist Rita Sonkodi will bring the politician and his era to the public with her paintings.
In the coming weeks, the festival will host concerts by Edina Mókus Szirtes, pianist Soma Balázs-Piri, flutist Laura Varga and guitarist Dávid Pavlovits.
The evening entitled The Alliance of Voices will feature a joint production by the Szeged University Choir and the Szeged University Theatre, and a festive concert on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Universitas Symphony Orchestra.
