Back in Budapest: Banff Mountain Film Festival, 23 - 25 September
Mountain biking in the Himalayas, a 1,300-metre climbing challenge in Patagonia, a 69-day Arctic expedition and downhill skateboarding on Alpine roads are among the adventures featured in this year's Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour which is visiting Budapest again.

The nine-film programme will be shown at Cinema City Mammut I in Buda, with two 90-minute programmes presented across the three days. The films are shown in their original languages, mostly English, with Hungarian and, where necessary, English subtitles.

One of the major highlights is Reel Rock: Riders on the Storm, which follows a team attempting the first free ascent of the legendary route on the 1,300-metre East Face of Torre Central in Patagonia. The route was first climbed in 1991, but it took more than three decades for the entire line to be climbed free.

Mandala heads to Nepal's remote Dolpo region, where mountain biker Kilian Bron and his team leave Kathmandu behind for an expedition through one of the Himalayas' less accessible landscapes. The film combines spectacular riding with some extraordinary mountain scenery.

Dissidence tells the story of Indonesian twins Ravianto and Raviandi Ramadhan, who progress from climbing gyms in Jakarta to the international competition circuit without outside sponsorship or institutional support. Their journey eventually takes them to a major climbing destination in France.

For a very different kind of adventure, A Baffin Vacation - Love on Ice follows a 69-day expedition along the remote coast of Canada's Baffin Island. The journey combines ski touring, rock climbing and sea kayaking, including attempts to explore previously uncharted rivers.

Old Man Lightning provides a more personal and humorous story.

John “Verm” Sherman, a legendary figure in bouldering, returns to Yosemite's Camp 4 to attempt Midnight Lightning, the famous problem he first climbed 25 years ago. Now approaching 60, he must contend with the physical effects of age and previous injuries as he takes on the challenge once again.

Flow Vision shifts the action to downhill skateboarding, following French rider Ambroise Trauet as he takes on one of Europe's demanding mountain roads. Meanwhile, A Sense of Fight combines climbing with a first ascent through a spectacular cave traverse.

The programme also includes That One Friend, centred on professional skier Sierra Schlag and her friendship with Waverly “Waves” Chin, and Bridgers, which follows two ski patrollers reflecting on their sport, their community and the changes taking place around them.

The A programme comprises Mandala, Dissidence, That One Friend, Bridgers and Reel Rock: Riders on the Storm, while the B programme features A Sense of Fight, A Baffin Vacation – Love on Ice, Flow Vision and Old Man Lightning.

The film festival screening address is Cinema City Mammut I, Lövőház utca 2–6, Budapest. Doors open each day at 17:00.

Screenings begin at 18:00 and 18:30 for the early sessions and at 20:00 and 20:30 for the later sessions.

On 23 September, the A programme is shown in the early evening and the B programme later; the order is reversed on 24 September, before returning to the A/B order on 25 September.

A standard ticket costs HUF 6,760 at the cinema box office or HUF 6,760 plus a HUF 140 convenience fee when purchased online. Student tickets costing HUF 5,500 are available for the 20:30 screenings.
