Johnny Rotten’s legendary post-punk project, Public Image Ltd (PiL), is set to return to Budapest for a long-awaited concert on 20 May 2026 at Dürer Kert.

Formed in 1978 by John Lydon following the breakup of the Sex Pistols, PiL quickly became one of the most influential and experimental bands to emerge from the post-punk movement.

Known for pushing far beyond punk’s original boundaries, the group blended dub, dance, noise, and avant-garde rock into a sound that helped redefine what alternative music could be.

Over the decades, PiL has gone through multiple line-up changes, but Lydon has remained the constant driving force — shaping the band’s uncompromising artistic identity.

Their catalogue includes landmark albums such as Metal Box, Flowers of Romance, and This Is What You Want… This Is What You Get, all of which continue to influence generations of musicians.

The Budapest show is part of the band’s “This Is Not The Last Tour”, which has been billed as a celebration of their enduring legacy rather than a farewell. Fans can expect a setlist that draws from across PiL’s extensive career, combining early experimental material with later-era tracks and fan favourites.

This will mark their first performance in Hungary in 15 years, making the concert a notable return for long-time followers of the band in the country.

Dürer Kert, a well-known venue in Budapest’s live music scene, will host the event, offering an intimate setting for what promises to be a high-energy and uncompromising show.

For expats and local music fans alike, the concert offers a rare opportunity to see a genuine post-punk pioneer still actively performing on stage more than four decades after first reshaping the genre.
