Summer Season Summary for Expats in Hungary

Festival season gets under way in June, with the likes of Daad Gathering, FEZEN Fest, the mega Campus Fesztivál, and scenic Fishing on Orfű all taking place within days of each other.

Budapest hosts the Danube Carnival in June, plus the Budapest Music Festival is on in late June.

July brings the pretty cultural VeszprémFest, along with the start of the Valley of Arts festival, which runs into early August.

One of the biggest alternative highlights, the O.Z.O.R.A. Festival, is set for late July to early August, drawing crowds from around the world to Dádpuszta.

August is traditionally the busiest festival month of the year here, and yep 2026 is no exception. Sziget in Budapest officially runs from 11 to 15 August this year, while Strand Festival takes place later in the month in Zamárdi by the 'Hungarian Sea'.

The Hungarian National Day on 20 August will also bring huge citywide celebrations in Budapest, including free public programmes and concerts, not to mention quite a few fireworks.

Plus, during the usual 'Indian summer' period, Budapest continues to host major cultural events, as for example September remains pretty active with festivals such as the Budapest Wine Festival.

7. SopronFest

Dates: 2 - 4 July 

The Vibe: This year’s line-up combines major Hungarian acts and international names, including The Prodigy, Azahriah, Bagossy Brothers Company, Halott Pénz, Dzsúdló, Beton.Hofi, Pogány Induló, Manuel, Parno Graszt, and more.shazam+2

The official programme also includes beloved Hungarian legends such as Demjén Ferenc, Lord, and Szikora Róbert and R-GO, making SopronFest one of the broadest multi-genre summer events in Hungary.

8. Zsolnay Light Festival

Dates: 2–5 July
Location: Mediterranean Downtown, Pécs

The Vibe: Celebrating its jubilee 10th anniversary, Hungary’s premier international light art festival turns the historic streets of Pécs into an open-air gallery. Alongside breathtaking, world-class 3D video mapping competitions, visitors can enjoy fire-juggling, street theater, and ambient open-air electronic and alternative concerts.

9. EFOTT Festival

Dates: 7–11 July
Location: Sukoró (Northern shore of Lake Velence)

The Vibe: Traditionally known as the country's ultimate university student festival, EFOTT combines beachside sports and daytime activities with high-octane nightly concerts. The lineup leans heavily into mainstream pop, hip-hop, and electronic dance music (EDM).

10. Manas Festival Dates: 8 - 13 July
Location: Lengyeltóti (Lake Kék-tó)

The Vibe: Set amid the natural beauty of southern Hungary, Manas Festival combines electronic music with wellness, creativity and personal growth. Describing itself as a transformational gathering, the six-day event features multiple music stages, yoga, workshops, family programmes, art installations and a vibrant food and market area.

Smaller and more intimate than many of Hungary's major festivals, Manas attracts an international community seeking a deeper connection with nature, music and like-minded people.

The Vibe: Tucked away in a forested valley just outside Budapest, Kolorádó is a fiercely independent alternative festival. It brilliantly pairs nature preservation with cutting-edge techno, experimental electronic beats, indie bands, and contemporary art installations.

12. B my Lake Festival

Dates: 15–18 July
Location: Lake Velence / Balaton Region

The Vibe: Broadly regarded as Hungary's premier lakeside electronic music festival, B my Lake specializes heavily in house, techno, and underground electronic music, drawing top-tier international DJs to state-of-the-art open-air stages.

15. Valley of Arts / Művészetek Völgye

The Vibe: A massive, 10-day cultural celebration that transforms a cluster of picturesque villages near Lake Balaton into a giant arts venue. It offers a wonderfully immersive mix of folk, jazz, and rock music, alongside handicraft markets, literature workshops, and theater performances.

Top Acts: Headliners include Swedish folk sensation José González, Hungarian rock legends Kispál és a Borz, Elefánt, and Esti Kornél, plus chart-toppers Beton.Hofi, Dzsúdló, Co Lee, and Carson Coma. The festival also spotlights the special Völgy Szimfonik 35 project, uniting stars like Sena (Irie Maffia), Beck Zoli (30Y), Szendrői Csaba (Elefánt), Co Lee, Giorgio (Carson Coma), and Beton.Hofi with the Danubia Orchestra for a one-off symphonic show. 16. OZORA Festival

Dates: 24 July – 4 August
Location: Dádpuszta

The Vibe: One of the most famous psychedelic trance and alternative culture gatherings on earth. For over a week, it evolves into a temporary, self-sustaining global village celebrated for its striking visionary architecture, holistic workshops, psychedelic art galleries, and ambient music.

17. Sziget Festival

Dates: 11–15 August
Location: Óbuda Island, Budapest

The Vibe: The undisputed crown jewel of Hungarian festivals. Dubbed the "Island of Freedom," Sziget takes over a leafy green island in the middle of the Danube, welcoming hundreds of thousands of global citizens.

Expect massive global pop, rock, and electronic headliners alongside massive circus tents, world music stages, and immersive performance art.

The Vibe: A high-energy lakeside party designed to wrap up the summer season in style. Set directly on the beach, STRAND mixes premier international DJs with a heavy rotation of Hungary's top touring pop, rock, and hip-hop stars.

Top Acts: STRAND Festival 2026 goes big on Hungarian headliners and international electronic stars. The main stage lineup features Azahriah, Halott Pénz, Beton.Hofi, Dzsúdló, Valmar, Carson Coma, Wellhello, Quimby, Elefánt, Kowalsky meg a Vega, Curtis, Manuel, and BSW making their STRAND debut. 20. INOTA Festival

Dates: 27–30 August
Location: Inota Power Plant (near Várpalota)

The Vibe: A must-attend for avant-garde audio-visual art enthusiasts. Set inside the brutalist complex of a massive, defunct thermal power plant, Inota showcases radical electronic music genres alongside cutting-edge architectural light mapping installations inside three iconic cooling towers.

6. Fishing on Orfű

Location: Panoráma Camping, Orfű
