BISB Remains the Only UK Accredited British School in Hungary
From BISB Team: We are delighted to announce that following our inspection in April, The British International School Budapest has successfully retained its British Schools Overseas (BSO) accreditation.

This is a highly prestigious mark of quality awarded by the UK Department for Education, and we are extremely proud of this achievement.

We remain the only school in Hungary to hold official British Schools Overseas accreditation, providing independent recognition that our school meets the high standards expected of independent schools in England.

What does this mean for the BISB community?

Our British Schools Overseas (BSO) accreditation provides independently verified assurance that we meet the standards expected of British independent schools.

Parents can have confidence that our school has undergone a rigorous external inspection covering key areas including teaching and learning, safeguarding, student welfare, leadership, curriculum provision and academic outcomes.

It also demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement, accountability and providing an educational experience that prepares students successfully for their future studies and lives beyond school.

What did the report say?

The inspection report contains many positive observations about our school community, recognising the strength of our relationships, the quality of teaching and learning, the progress made by our students, and the commitment of staff across the school.

Some of the key strengths highlighted by inspectors included:

1. Strong Leadership and Continuous Improvement

Inspectors praised leaders (at all levels) as "knowledgeable and skilled" who evaluate the school's provision carefully and identify well-considered priorities for development. They also noted that BISB leaders accurately identify areas for improvement and use evidence to drive school development.

2. Exceptional International Community and Culture

One of the strongest statements in the report is that the community has been "successful in creating a harmonious school community of pupils from a variety of backgrounds and cultures." They noted that pupils demonstrate respect for differences, understand democracy and individual liberty, and value diversity.

3. High Quality Teaching and Strong Student Outcomes

Inspectors found the curriculum to be well planned, teaching was effective, and pupils make good progress. They specifically noted that examinations results were strong and older students were supported to access a variety of university destinations and courses around the world.

4.Outstanding Support for multilingual Learners and varied needs learners

With pupils learning through English language, inspectors highlighted the school's expertise in supporting EAP learners and students with additional needs (SEND). It was noted that how well these students are helped to access the curriculum and how this supports them making same levels of progress seen by other students at BISB.

5. Strong Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing

Safeguarding is described as a "secure safeguarding culture". Staff are well trained, concerns are followed up promptly, and leaders work effectively with external agencies to support pupils. Alongside this, inspectors recognised the extensive emotional wellbeing support available to students.
