Xpat Interview: Michael Goldberg

Michael first worked as a project manager and business development manager at BPI S.A., the real estate subsidiary of CFE SA. He moved to Hungary in 2008 and manages since then the local subsidiaries in CEE region for the same company.
A passionate traveller and skier, tennis player, Michael hits the balls during his limited time on the polo field.
He speaks fluent French, English, Dutch, Spanish and Hebrew and very kicsi Magyarul.
1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
Sent by my company in Brussels to invest in the real estate market in CEE, I first came back and forth to Hungary in 2006 and started to live in town end 2008.
2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
If an erasmus exchange year counts, I lived one year in Barcelona
3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
Time is not an issue :)
4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
For my parents I would recommend a walk along the Danube, castle district, opera and Szechenyi baths. For friends various kerts and clubs and the next day they cool off at Szechenyi baths.
5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
I would opt for the classic Goulash, although love the Lecsó
6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Ice cream or pastries!
7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Egészségedre
8. What do you miss most from home?
Chocolate
9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Artist (painter, singer, ...), which I lack the talent for
10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Pizza boy, did it once in my young ages
11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Istanbul
12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Not sure yet
13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Loved to play and watch tennis
14. What can't you resist?
Night out with the close friends

Definitely night person
18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Access to healthcare, minimum sanitation and drinkable water for each of us on this little globe.

Pest of coarse!
20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Never give up and always bounce back
