Hundreds Of Thousands Celebrated The Anniversary Of The Foundation Of The State In Budapest

In the evening of 20 August, the day that marks the anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian State, more than half a million people watched the ceremonial fireworks display held on the Danube Banks. The ceremonial events attracted much attention and were held in high spirits; thousands of tourists were able to share the festive atmosphere of one of Hungary’s greatest national holidays.

The celebrations will begin on August 19 when the 'Street of Hungarian Flavours' will open at noon between the Buda side of the Erzsébet híd and Bem tér. Awards will be presented for Hungary’s best cake, sugar-free cake and ice cream. Pop music will play on Clark Ádám tér and on Bem tér from 8pm. Someone could nitpick and say that János Áder has not been confirmed as president yet. He was only nominated by Viktor Orbán and endorsed by the Fidesz-KDNP parliamentary caucuses.
