The average gross wage in Hungary rose by an annual 5.4% to 262,200 forints (EUR 835) in September, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Net wage growth outpaced the increase, climbing 7% to 174,393 forints due to a one percentage point cut in the personal income tax rate from January.

The OECD lowered its projection for Hungary’s GDP growth next year to 2.5 percent in volume terms in a forecast published on Monday from the 3.1 percent in the previous Economic Outlook released in June 2016. The OECD however improved its 1.6 percent summer projection for Hungary’s growth this year to 1.7 percent in the autumn edition of the World Economic Outlook.

The Municipal Court of Budapest on Thursday ruled that the National Bank of Hungary (NBH) must release data of public interest regarding the sale of MKB Bank. The NBH sold MKB Bank to a consortium of two private equity funds, Blue Robin Investments and METIS Private Capital Fund, and Hungary’s Pannonia Pension Fund for HUF 37bn in the summer.

The National Bank of Hungary sees no threat of deflation in the country despite inflation being well below the 3% target, a senior analyst at the central bank said. András Balatoni told public news channel M1 that Hungary is in no way threatened by the level of deflation Japan battled in the 90s.
