This large-scale festival is put on for the public every year on 20th August. There is an exhibition of Hungarian crafts, a water and an air parade, and a firework display. This day is also a national holiday in honour of Saint Stephen (King István I.), founder of the state of Hungary, as well as the festival of the new bread.

Public Transport Will Get You To The Festivities In Budapest On 20 August

Traffic changes will be made in public transport service and on roads and Danube bridges on the eve and the day of St. Stephen’s Day (Tuesday, 19 August and Wednesday, 20 August 2014). Already on 19 August 2014, traffic restrictions will be in place at several locations in the city due to preparations for the celebrations, therefore some public transport lines will run on modified routes.

On 20 August 2014, between 9 – 9.30 pm, fireworks will be launched from four sites (three barges and the Chain Bridge) to create the traditional ceremonial 'play of lights' in the Hungarian capital.
