MPs Vote Down Planned "Congestion" Fee For Budapest

Parliament on Friday rejected an amendment motion under which a congestion fee could be collected from drivers in Budapest. The motion was submitted by two deputy mayors who are also MPs, of whom Gábor Bagdy abstained from voting while István György voted against his own proposal. It was soundly rejected by 305 votes to 14.

The first finds from the Hungarian Conquest period of the 10th century at Nagykörű, a village on the right bank of the River Tisza, 25 kilometres northeast of the town of Szolnok, were excavated in 1891. In the autumn of 2010 the local authority at the village started building a new créche in the village centre and while digging the foundations more ancient Hungarian burials were found.

The cabinet has agreed to provide a full guarantee for financing the BKV after the city agreed on extending refinancing of the public transport company's Ft 63 billion debt with seven banks last week. The decision was made just before a Ft 48 billion BKV loan come due.

Pest Central District Court on Wednesday sentenced the four defendants in the West Balkan nightclub disaster to 32 months in prison each. The verdict is open to appeal. Three women were trampled to death and several others were injured in a stampede on January 15, 2011 as about 3,000 people tried to flee the club when a rumour spread that it was on fire.
