Hungarian liberal weekly news magazine 168 óra asked eight members of Hungary’s liberal establishment their reaction to the Fidesz-KDNP landslide victory in Sunday’s local and county elections. On 23 October Hungary marks the 58th anniversary of 1956, and it is is a national holiday. It commemorates the Revolution of 1956, when Hungarians rose up against the Soviet ruled communist system and also the ‘Day of the Republic’, as in 1989 Hungary was declared a republic. On October 22nd and 23rd there are several programs held throughout Hungary.

Justice Minister László Trócsányi noted at the meeting of the national security committee that the whole affair was just based on an assumption at this stage and he saw no case to be made under Hungarian law. He said US lawyers had never complained about any of the Hungarian authorities before.
