Hungarians consider themselves relatively uninformed as regards to financial affairs, but consult several sources when it comes to finding investment options, a survey conducted jointly by CIB Bank and the GfK research institute showed. The two firms conducted the research by asking online 500 people in the 25-69 age group who use the internet on a weekly basis.

GKI-Erste’s combined gauge of consumer and business confidence edged down in May as business confidence declined, but consumer confidence improved slightly. The index slipped to minus 3.1 points in May from minus 2.9 points in April. The business index dropped to 3.7 points from 4.9, but the consumer index rose to minus 22.6 points from minus 25.0.

The company was shut down this week, the third security and investment firm to have its activities suspended within weeks. Investigators believe it may have invested scores of billions of euros more in bonds than it was allowed to under its bond insurance programme.

Hungary’s Competition Office (GVH) said it had fined K&H Bank 80 million forints for misleading advertising. GVH levied the fine for a month-long ad campaign of KSH’s “MIX” product early in 2014. KSH advertised a 7.80% annual return on the product – well over the market rate – but failed to make clear that the rate was paid only on the one-third of savings that were placed in a deposit.
