Official: Hungary Close To Bridging Health-Care Pay Gap

Recent and new wage hikes in the health-care sector will help Hungary close the pay gap with the other Visegrad Group countries, the state secretary for health care said. The base salary of doctors and pharmacists increased by gross 107,000 forints (EUR 348) from September 1 this year and will rise by another 100,000 forints from November 1, 2017, Zoltán Ónodi-Szűcs said.
Hungarian Hospital Debt Rapidly Increasing

Hungary’s ailing hospitals amassed a total debt of 68.2 billion forints (EUR 220m) by the end of June, daily Népszava reported, adding that the amount was increasing by 3-4 billion forints each month. Out of the 68.2 billion forints total, hospitals owed 51.8 billion to suppliers, the report said.

The government has reached an agreement with health-care unions on raising base salaries in the sector starting in September this year, the human resources minister announced on Thursday. The base salary of doctors and pharmacists will increase by gross 107,000 forints (EUR 344) from September 1 this year and by another 100,000 forints from November 1, 2017, Zoltán Balog told a press conference.
