Helsinki Committee Wins Lawsuit Against Fidesz
The governing party tarnished the good reputation of the Helsinki Committee when it accused the NGO of falsifying data. Fidesz said in May last year that the “bogus civil society Helsinki Committee meets political orders placed by international speculative financial capital interests and arrogantly attempts to falsify plain figures.

” Fidesz wrote at the time that “contrary to their lies four-fifths of the asylum seekers, about 35,000 people did not come from a war zone to Hungary” but were economic migrants.

Helsinki Committee said it will spend the Ft 1 million it has won in compensation to help refugees.

The Capital Court, as a court of first instance ruled in January that the Helsinki Committee was justified in bringing the case forward.
