Demographics Behind Labour Shortage
Hungary’s labour shortage is the result of demographic decline, hence wage hikes will not address the problem, the National Federation of Employers and Industrialists (Mgyosz) vice president Ferenc Rolek told state news channel M1.

The number of people of working age is dwindling by 40,000-50,000 each year and this trend will continue for decades, he added.

Rolek said all sectors are faced with the problem of finding workers, in part because many Hungarians are emigrating.

The shortage of staff will drive up pay and lead to the demise of companies that cannot afford higher wages, especially in the SME sector, he warned.
