It was first spotted in Somoskőújfalu near the Slovak border on May 23, and it was on the outskirts of Tömörkény in southeast Hungary by Thursday, having covered almost 300 kilometres.

Park rangers and Csongrád county police are following the two or three-year-old male bear. From Wednesday afternoon when it entered Csongrád county, until Thursday morning, the bear travelled 35 kilometres southward. 

Kiskunság National Park spokeswoman Mónika Kis told Index.hu on Thursday that putting the creature to sleep with a special shot will only be necessary if it presents a danger to itself or to somebody else.
