'Unsung Hero: General Görgei' Exhibition, Hungarian National Museum
Seen until 20 August. Artúr Görgei, born 200 years ago, is remembered above all for the surrender that closed the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848–1849.

He was the military commander invested with dictatorial powers who, instead of entering into battle with the army of Tsar Nicholas I, ordered his army to lay down their arms.

Was he a traitor? Did he ally himself with the enemy? Did he let the cause of Hungarian freedom fall through his own self-interest? Why did Görgei fght at all, and why were the soldiers of the 1848–1849 War of Independence fighting?

In addition to fine art, visitors will also be treated to local gastro delights, family programs, music concerts and theater productions, Csaba Fürjesi, one of the founders of the art colony, told MTI.

    The Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum and Research Centre in Vörösmarty utca 35, District 6, opened in September 1986 in the Old Academy of Music building, previously used from late 1875 until mid-1907 for music teaching. Early photographs show that there were originally two buildings on the site at the time of inauguration but one building has since been demolished.

    On display until 20 July. The exhibition showcases one of the most significant yet enigmatic figures of medieval Hungarian art, known as Master MS. At the heart of the monographic exhibition is Master MS’s most famous work: the former high altarpiece of Saint Catherine’s Church in Selmecbánya (now Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia).
