WAC: Foreign Spectators from 100 Countries - Mainly Germany, Israel, UK - Expected for World Athletics Week in Budapest
Tourism accommodation providers in Budapest have already received close to 340,000 guest night bookings for August 19-27, when the World Athletics Championships will take place in the capital, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) said.

Data from the National Tourism Data Service Centre (NTAK) show more than 70% of the bookings were made by foreigners, mainly from Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom, but also from Italy, Spain as well as Argentina, Australia, the United States, India, Canada and China.

The majority of both foreign and Hungarian guests booked accommodation at four or five-star hotels.

The competitors and the fans will spread the word about Hungary across the world, and some 1 billion people will watch the contests on television, which has an invaluable impact for tourism, MTÜ CEO Péter Horváth said.

Around 50,000 foreign visitors are expected to come to Budapest exclusively to watch the championships, Balázs Németh, the CEO of the company organising the event, has said.

Photo Exhibition on Hungary to Open At National Athletics Centre

An outdoor display featuring 42 photographs will show images of Hungary at the National Athletics Centre in tandem with the 2023 World Athletics Championships from Saturday.

The images depict the beauty of Hungary’s nature, architecture and communities to some 2,000 athletes arriving from over 200 countries and 50,000 visitors from around 100 countries, Ottó Kaiser, head of the Magyarország 365 photo competition jury, told a press conference on Wednesday.

The Magyarország 365 photo competition was launched in 2019 and the jury selected 42 out of some 124,000 images submitted by amateur and professional photographers, he said.

The exhibition will be shown during the event running through to August 27, he added.
