Budapest Airport Wins 'Best Airport in Eastern Europe' for 11th Time
Budapest won Skytrax’s "Best Airport in Eastern Europe" award at the World Airport Awards, held in Frankfurt as part of the Passenger Terminal Expo, for the 11th time in a row on April 17.

The winner is chosen based on customer feedback gathered from the World Airport Survey questionnaires and prepared by an independent research organization. Data collection is completed over a seven-month period by travelers of over 100 nationalities. The polls amass information on the travel experience and airport services from arrival and check-in to departures.

The airport was successful in 2023 since passenger traffic exceeded 14.7 million while air cargo volumes passed the target threshold of 200,000 tons. Ferenc Liszt International Airport was updated from a three-star to a four-star rating over the past few years and continues to enhance its services through various developments.

Improvements include the expansion of the self-service baggage drop-off system and the installation of quiet boxes in the terminals. It also opened an observation and smoking terrace in Terminal 2B and created children’s play areas (with another play area under construction in Pier B). In addition, the security screening has been refined with a new queue display system. Two baggage carousels were added to the baggage reclaim area in Terminal 2A as well.

On the outside, taxiways and asphalt and concrete pavement were refurbished to a value of EUR 16 mln. A terminal parking facility with 586 parking spaces for cars and eight spaces for coaches was built and the assembly of the second airport hotel has begun.

“The ongoing achievements are a true testament to the daily hard work of the airport staff and management, and the airport should be delighted at being recognized yet again by customers for its excellence,” says Edward Plaisted, the CEO of Skytrax.
