“Unbearable in Summer”: More Questions Raised About Revamped Russian Metro Carriages Used in Budapest
The opposition LMP has raised further questions concerning the revamp of Russian metro carriages used in Budapest’s 3rd metro line, a party spokesman said.

József Gál told a press conference that instead of new metro carriages, revamped carriages were supplied that came without air conditioning, making travel on the metro 3 line “unbearable during the summer”.

He accused former Budapest Mayor István Tarlós of being “weak” and allowing the ruling Fidesz party to force Budapest into signing an “extremely unfavourable contract” serving Russian lobbying interests.

He said that in early April the party initially contacted Budapest transport centre BKK board chairman Tibor Draskovics, who advised them to turn to BKV.

After the entire tender document of the revamp project had been provided, it was revealed that some important details were missing, he added.

Further questions have been sent to BKV, including who the members of the BKV panel were when all bids were excluded except a Russian one and what relations they had with the company.
