Update: M3 Metro in Budapest to be Extended Using EU Funding

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karacsony welcomed the announcement that the capital would get European Union funding to extend the M3 metro line in a post on Facebook on Wednesday.
Karacsony noted that the announcement had been made at a joint press conference in the morning with Prime Minister Peter Magyar and Transportation and Investment Minister David Vitezy.
He said plans had already been drafted for extending the M3 line from the Ujpest-kozpont terminus to Kaposztasmegyer, on the northern edge of the city.
"Now there is enough time and money to extend it to the Rakospalota-Ujpest train station, which is still a leap forward," he added.
Extending M3 metro line could cost HUF 120bn-160bn - MBH
Extending Budapest's M3 metro line to the Rakospalota-Ujpest train station, in the north of the capital, would cost around HUF 120bn-160bn, at current prices, analysts for MBH Bank said in a note on Monday.
Although the cost of the investment would probably not be recouped from fares, the extension would cut commuting time, broaden the labour market and raise the value of homes in the neighbourhood, the analysts said.
The government recently announced plans to earmark European Union funding for the extension of the M3 metro to Rakospalota-Ujpest.
