Striking Reduction in BKK Ticket Machine Scams in Budapest
The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) reports a 96% drop in fraud involving ticket machines after beginning a programme of installing new ticket dispenser trays in machines last August.

Scammers would block the change refund system, visiting the machines periodically to unblock the system and collect the backed-up cash.

The company urges the public to report any fraud to both the BKK and the police, assuring customers that missing funds would be refunded after proper investigation.

The BKK is testing new and refurbished machines, with a public tender planned this autumn to upgrade all machines by 2026.
