The agency wrote in a statement that the new variant is presumably responsible for the slight rise in the concentration level gauged in sewage water in June and July.

The virus continues to circulate at a low level in Hungary, but nothing yet indicates the formation of a bigger wave of the epidemic.

According to the current data, Nimbus does not cause any more severe illness than the former ones.

The previous vaccines continue to provide protection against the severe disease, the health authority said.
