Paid VIP Care at Uzsoki Hospital to be Stopped by Gov't

The government will close down the VIP section at Budapest's Uzsoki Street Hospital, Gyorgy Velkey, state secretary at the foreign ministry, said on Facebook.
"Gone are the days at Uzsoki Street Hospital when a few were first among equals ... when for a few million forints some had faster access to services and the money ended up with a private company," Velkey said.
Following a visit to the hospital, Velkey said the hospital's operating conditions called for improvement, adding that "open issues of the previous era need to be resolved."
"The priorities are clear: first comes the patient, followed by everything else. We want a system in which one's wealth should not mean a preferential treatment in hospital," Velkey said.
According to press reports, patients at the "private" section could avoid waiting several years for an elective operation if they paid 2.5 million forints.
Andrea Ficzere, the hospital's director-general was dismissed on August 27.
