“Before Parliament convenes, let us show [Prime Minister Viktor] Orbán that he has no mandate to determine our future!,” Bajnai said. Benedek Jávor, co-leader of the Dialogue for Hungary (PM) party, submitted to the National Election Committee a question to be put to a referendum: Do you agree that new nuclear power blocks should be built in Hungary with the impact of increasing public debt?
The opposition LMP had called on the government earlier to hold a parliamentary debate on the new blocks. LMP earlier said it would organise a demonstration against the Paks project on January 25.
The radical nationalist Jobbik party expects the government to make public the Hungarian- Russian interstate agreement on the expansion in every detail and calls for a parliamentary committee to supervise the project, deputy leader Zoltán Balczó said on Tuesday.
The agreement was signed in Moscow on Jan. 14. The upgrade, estimated to cost 10-12 billion euros, is set to be financed from a 30-year interstate loan from Russia.
