Museum Of Fine Arts: Reconstruction To Begin In February

Budapest’s famous Museum of Fine Arts on Heroes’ Square is to close its doors to visitors for a three-year period of reconstruction. Work on the iconic neo-Renaissance and neo-Classicist building, designed by architects Albert Schickedanz and Ferenc Fülöp Herzog and built between 1900 and 1906, will begin as early as next February.

The Ludwig Museum and Gallery of Contemporary Art opened an exhibition presenting 80 works of 60 contemporary artists on Thursday to celebrate its 25-year existence.

In 2014 the Annual Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, 9 November. The traditional service and wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Commonwealth War Cemetery of Solymár at 10:55. Everybody is welcome to attend the ecumenical service. Those who do are kindly requested to arrive at the cemetery no later than 10:45 please. The service lasts approximately 20 minutes.

An international social and educational trip dubbed Freedom Express, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the fall of Communism in Europe, is to arrive in Budapest on Wednesday. The project is travelling through Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany, and after stops in Gdansk and Warsaw, it will be in Budapest for two days.

The festival’s mission is to remove contemporary art from the conventional museum and gallery settings and bring it closer to a much wider audience, says Szabolcs Erdélyi the event organiser.
