The importance of the French language is beyond doubt, Foreign Ministry state secretary Levente Magyar said yesterday as he opened the French Summer University for this year. Teachers of French have come from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Poland to take part in refresher courses all this week.

The European Voluntary Service offers young people the chance to engage in volunteer work in a foreign country on the continent. The 21-year-old Imke Langmann from Germany thought it sounded good. Her choice of venue: Budapest.

From the Island of Mohács the „devils” still come on boats, according to the legend. Those arriving by boats walk to Kóló Square to join the rest, and then all proceed through the streets, mixing in with the audience along the way.
