State railway company MÁV indefinitely cancelled all international train traffic after 8 a.m. Thursday, citing “safety reasons”. Passengers wishing to travel abroad will have to disembark within Hungary and transfer to trains run by foreign companies. In the first quarter of this year, Hungarians paid a total 3.6 million visits to other countries, 5.4% up from the same period last year, according to Central Statistical Office (KSH) data. Spending by those Hungarian visitors amounted to 125 billion forints (EUR 400m), up 13% compared to 2014.

Only euros and Croatian kuna will be accepted by motorway toll booths in Croatia from June 1, the Rijeka daily Novi List reports, citing a decision by Croatian motorway company HAC made at the end of April. As a result no Hungarian forint can be used any more. Bank cards will be accepted.

Budapest Airport registered an annual 10.8% increase in traffic last month, with 840,486 passengers arriving and departing from the facility, an all-time high for the month of April. The rise in traffic was twice that of the EU average. In the first four months, passenger traffic increased 12.1% year-on-year, while airlines reported average seat occupancy of 78.8%.
