Dates & Artists Announced For Budapest Spring Festival 2016

In 2016, the spring festivities offer a programme of great variety in genres and venues, between 8 and 24 April. The 36th Budapest Spring Festival awaits visitors with a programme that involves many of the arts, with events in classical music, opera, jazz and pop, world music, dance, theatre and the visual arts.

TaxiWars is the result of a wayward and intensive collaboration between dEUS frontman Tom Barman and saxophone player Robin Verheyen. Despite the fact that the average age of these three young musicians is only 16, their exceptional skill caught the attention of jazz insiders and fans right off the bat. During the two years of its existence, the D.A.S. Trio - named for its members, Adonisz (Donka) Fábry, Ábel Nagy and Samu Kéri - have already pocketed a number of awards from various festivals.
New International Jazz Festival In Budapest

A new festival dedicated to jazz will be added to the Budapest music scene from April, the organiser said. “We want the festival to become a regular event presenting prominent foreign performers and leading Hungarian musicians, as well as promoting young Hungarian amateur bands,” Attila Kleb, managing director of Get Closer Concerts, said.

The first Budapest Circus Festival was held 20 years ago, in 1996 and as a result of the notion and casting of the professionals of the Hungarian Circus And Variety Non-profit Ltd. (MACIVA) it soon proved to be equal with the great festivals of the circus world: in addition to Monte Carlo, Latina and Moscow also Budapest has become an important meeting place for the circus art.
Popular Hungarian Bandleader Benkó Dies

Clarinet player Sándor Benkó, founder of the popular Benkó Dixieland Band, died on Tuesday at the age of 75, his family announced. Benkó started the group while a high school student in 1957. Its first album was certified a gold disc. The band toured the world, took part in many music festivals and received numerous awards. The band has no fewer than 1,800 professional recordings.
