A group of over 1,000 migrants set off on foot from Hegyeshalom in the direction of the Austrian border on Wednesday afternoon, public news channel M1 reported. This was the second group that attempted to cross into Austria on foot today. The migrants were reported to have arrived from Budapest by a charter train service to Hegyeshalom station, the Hungarian border point.

By Thursday morning the number of migrants waiting at Budapest’s Keleti railway station has reached 2,000, Tibor Lakatos, a senior officer of the national police, told the press. Lakatos said the police were working to direct the illegal migrants to reception points of the immigration office. Lakatos said that some 1,000 police officers were working along the Hungary-Serbia border in the south.
