Hungary’s 199 lawmakers took their oaths on Tuesday at the start of the new parliamentary cycle. Ruling party Fidesz has 117 deputies, its Christian Democrat ally 16 lawmakers, the opposition Socialists 29, radical nationalist Jobbik 23 and green LMP 5 deputies.
Media In Hungary Rated 'Partly Free' By Freedom House

Although Freedom House has improved the scores of Hungary, it said the country’s media is still “partly free” in its 2013 global media freedom report released on Thursday. The Washington-based independent NGO ranked Hungary 71th on its global list of 197 countries, with a press freedom score of 35 on a scale of 100. FH’s report for 2012 ranked Hungary 74th, with a press freedom score of 36.

President János Áder has asked Viktor Orbán, the prime minister candidate of the Fidesz-Christian Democrat party alliance, to set up Hungary’s next government. Speaking to reporters after the nomination, Orbán said it was “an exceptional honour” that Hungary’s voters had entrusted him to head Hungary’s government for the third time.

President János Áder will open the founding session of the new 199-member parliament today at 10am. He will propose that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán should retain his post. Orbán will also address the session. The parliamentary speaker will be elected in a secret vote and he will then take his oath. This will be followed by the election of five deputy speakers and ten notaries.
