Invitation: Photo Exhibition: Kocsis At 60, Palace Of Arts Budapest
The critic András Pernye once said that if he had to choose between a picture or sound when passing judgement on how good a musician someone might be, he would be surer if he could only see them than if he could only hear them. Fortunately most of us do not have to make this choice in the case of Zoltán Kocsis, who can be both seen and heard, at the piano or with baton in hand, in his youth or at the age of sixty, with brown hair or silver – and at every stage in between.

The sound slips away while the picture endures, this much we know.

Even after the greatest experience of Kocsis, we must rely on our memories, which are unreliable to put it mildly, although opinions are sufficiently unanimous for us to be sure we have witnessed something special.

Time flies, and so do we with it, but in our flight we can look back and see: this was someone we loved to hear, who gave us so much enjoyment, and who made us understand music and musicians. Having experienced something special, let us now witness someone special.

On display until 1 July
