Mayor Tarlós: Charge To Use “Budapest” Name
Budapest mayor István Tarlós has proposed that individual entrepreneurs and partnerships pay in future for using the name “Budapest” or any of its variants. The city council will vote next Wednesday on the measure.

More than 1,000 applicants, mostly companies, have requested use of the name “Budapest” since the council passed a decree on its use in 1994.

Under the proposed regulation, if a company requests the use of “Budapest” in its name for an unspecified period, it would have to pay Ft 750,000, and for displaying the word “Budapest” on a gift will pay Ft 100.
