Ombudsman Challenges Anti-Terrorist Center Powers In Hungary
Basic rights ombudsman Máté Szabó has urged Interior Minister Sándor Pintér to initiate an amendment to ensure the possibility of legal remedy against secret information gathering by the Anti-Terrorist Centre (TEK).

The TEK has been empowered since January to collect information secretly under the new law on national security services. However, Szabó said, the law does not provide sufficient legal remedy.

He cited a Council of Europe recommendation that all citizens have the opportunity to gain insight into information collected about themselves and stored by intelligence services, provided that they do not compromise national security interests.
