Invitation: English Comedy In Budapest With Dave Thompson, 2 October
We have decided to concentrate our Autumn/Winter season of comedy shows on performers who have had the best and most popular reactions during our three years of operation in Budapest and who better to open that season than the one and only Dave Thompson?

Dave has appeared on the Baby Blue Banana stage more often than any other performer, as compere, opening act and of course headliner and he has always thrilled every audience with his great talent for one-liners, ad-libs and audience interaction.

Surprisingly it is more than 2 years since Dave last headlined a show for us in Budapest and we decided that it is clearly time to get him back on the stage to headline once again. Opening the show will be another great Budapest favourite. Martin Zdarek has thrilled audiences at our Open-Mic shows regularly, as well as appearing on a number of other stages in Budapest, including Gift of the Gab. Now it’s time for him to make his debut on the professional stage, where we are certain that he will be a huge hit.

Best known for playing Tinky Winky in the Teletubbies and for making headlines around the world when he lost the role, Dave Thompson is a truly unique character and a great live comedian. His talent for “one-liners” and his genuinely likeable personality have made him as popular amongst his fellow comedians as he is amongst adoring audiences.

Dave has appeared many times on TV alongside the likes of Harry Hill, Ben Elton and Al Murray, in addition to a long and distinguished career on the live comedy stage. In recent years, With his Hungarian wife, Dave has been a regular visitor to Budapest and recently lived here for a while, so has a close affinity to the city and both the Hungarian and expat communities, amongst whom he has made many friends. Without doubt, Dave has performed English comedy in Budapest more than any other comedian and still retains the same freshness and comic timing that he showed the very first time he appeared here.

What the critics say about Dave Thompson:
“Dave Thompson is hilarious and goes down a storm with the crowd.” – Daily Mail
“Dave Thompson has a unique style and some of the best one-liners” – The Guardian
“The best one-liners I’ve heard this season” - The independent
“Talented and always amusing. One of the finest joke writers in the country” – Time Out

Martin Zdarek has rapidly become a cult hero amongst the audiences of Budapest, with his hilarious, eccentric performances at Gift of the Gab and at our own Open-Mic shows. Originally from the Czech Republic, there is no doubt that Martin has a natural talent for entertainment and we have no doubt that he is destined to be a big star of comedy. So it is a great privilege for us to have the opportunity of presenting his professional comedy debut.

Silenus Pub is a great venue and very easy to find, just a short walk from Deak ter or Vorosmarty ter. We are really looking forward to our first event there.
