Tram Track Upgrade On Budapest's Busiest Boulevard, Replacement Bus Service Info.
Trams 4 and 6 will be out of service between Blaha Lujza tér M station and Corvin-negyed M station until 0400 AM Monday, 5 November 2012 due to construction. During this period, tram replacement buses will be operating between Blaha Lujza tér and Boráros tér in the daytime and between Széll Kálmán tér and Móricz Zsigmond körtér at night. Additionally, one lane of the road will be reserved for tram replacement buses and closed to car traffic. Read on for replacement bus service info.

The tracks of the busiest tramlines of Budapest, trams 4 and 6 on the Nagykörút (Grand Boulevard), will be refurbished by BKV in order to upgrade deteriorated tracks thereby heightening travel comfort for passengers and also eliminating speed restrictions for trams. The refurbishment is financed from allocated development funds based on the public service contract between BKK and BKV.

Thanks to the upgrade, the speed restriction will be eliminated on a 1,100 meter long track section between József utca and Üllői út enabling passengers to get to their destinations faster due to reduced travel times on the trams. The refurbishment works will include road junctions as well: in addition to the ones between József utca and Üllői út, the Bérkocsis utca junction will also be reconstructed. The new tram tracks will get uniform basalt flooring and the materials used for the refurbishment will make more silent tram service possible thereby lessening noise levels along the route.

During the time of refurbishment the entire track section between Blaha Lujza tér M and Corvin-negyed M will have to be closed to tram traffic from 1 am on Saturday 13 October to 4 am on Monday, 5 November 2012. Trams will be replaced by buses during this period daily between 4:00 and midnight between Blaha Lujza tér M and Boráros tér H; and on the full length of the line at night (daily between midnight and 4 am) between Széll Kálmán tér M and Móricz Zsigmond körtér.
