EU Court Rules Hungary Retirement Law For Judges Discriminatory
- 7 Nov 2012 8:03 AM
The Luxembourg Court of Justice said the "radical" retirement law did not conform to the objective of setting uniform retirement regulations in the public sector or creating a more balanced age structure in public administration.
The Hungarian Government notes the ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union, relating to legislation which was repealed in July this year as a result of a decision by the Constitutional Court of Hungary. The Government does not wish to comment further on the ruling.
Hungary's Constitutional Court axed provisions of the law that adjust the retirement age of judges to the general retirement age of 62 in July. The relevant parts of the law were annulled with retroactive effect to 1 January 2012.
